PALMERSTON N., 3rd January.

Visitors to Palnierston North during the New Year included Mr. C. B. Norwood (Mayor of Wellington), SeniorSergeant Fitzpatrick, of Gisborne, and formerly of Palmerston North, and Mr. W. E. Jackson, of Wellington. . Mr. T. Is. Morson, manager of the Kaponga Power Board, is revisiting Feilding, where he was previously engaged as manager of the Manawatu Board's town business. Mr. and Mrs. A. Kingston, sen., of Hamilton, are visiting their, son,- Mr; A. Kingston, of Feilding. ■/. -■ >. ' The death has occurred at the great age of 85 years/ of Mr. Thomas Henry Holden, father of Mrs.' Norman Sinclair, of Palmerston North. .;. Five years ago the deceased gentleman came out to t!*o Dominion to live, with • his daughter, prior to which ■he . ad his home in Settle, Yorkshire. He was a man of splendid physique, and in his eightieth year could; accomplish a twenty-mile walk without difficulty. BAIL WAY PICNIC. ,' °' This year the railway employees ofPalmerston's busy junction will, hold their annual picnic on the banks of the Rangitikei Eiver at Kakai-iki, whither next week-end a train of 19 carriages, drawn "oy two of the heaviest type engines in the service, will convey employees, their wives, children, and friends. , SALVATION ARMY'S SHIELD DAY.
