MIRAMAR TOURNAMENT
CHAMPIONSHIP COMPLETED
WON BY EANA WAGG.
The golf tournament at Miramar. entered on its final stages to-day.in perfect weather. . The semi-finals of the championship left Petleyi-and Wagg to fight out the final this afternoon. Tho group contests will be concluded to-day. CHAMPIONSHIP i SEMI-FINALS. A close contest, with flashes of firstrate golf, was seen between-Wagg and Hussey. Wagg won--the first in 5-6, and the next in 3-4. The third was halved in 6's against" the moderate southerly. Wagg lost a ball at the fourth, which Hussey took in 4. The I fifth was nicely halved in 4's. Wagg won the sixth in 3, making him 2 up again. The seventh was halved in s's. | Hussey took tho eight in a nice 3, , bringing Wagg's lead down to one. Wagg's second found the rough at the ! ninth, and ho took 6, Hussey taking j the hole in 5, and squaring; the match at the turn. Wagg took the tenth in 4: The next was halved in s's. Wagg took the twelfth in 4. Both found the bunker from the tee, but Hussey took two to get out. Wagg, with a lead of 2 up, appeared to be in a good position, but he sliced his. drive at the thirteenth, and did not get well out of the long grass, taking 5 to Hussey's 4, and missed a short putt at the next, which Hussey took in 3, squaring the match once more. The fifteen was halved in s's. The Wanganui player had a bit of real misfortune at the sixteenth, where a xoiy long drive'found the ditch. The ball was invisible'in tho long grass, and he took. 2 to get out. Wagg took the hole iii a perfect 4. Hussey mis-hit his tee shot at the next, and the match ended Wagg 2 up and 1. Petley had rather an easy victory over Black. 1 The latter did nqt win a hole until after the turn, where Petley was 5 up, and tho match ended 5 and 3. Petley was playing sound golf, out in 40, with a 6 at the third, and .back in 4, 5, 3, 4, .5. Black ■ took 45 to go out, losing direct'iori with his wood, but steadied up, finishing in 4, 4, 3, 5, 3. Sana Wagg beat J. M. Hussey, 2 and 1. J. L. Petley beat '11. A. Black, 5 and 3. Final. Eana Wagg beat -J. L. Petloy, 6 and 4. GROUP COMPETITIONS. With the exception of group 10, the group competitions have concluded' as follows: — Group No. I.—P. D., Daniel! beat H. ;E. Aplin, 5 and 3. Group No. 3. —E. A. Westbrook beat J. T. Bpwness, 1 up. Group No.'3.—M. D. Loftus beat A. E. Lawry, 1 up at tho nineteenth. Group No. 4.— W. E. Kirker beat B. M'Dowell, 2 and 1. Group No. 5.—A. C. Hammond beat A. G. Williams, 2 and 1. Group No. 6. —L. A. Bath boat H. P. Hugo, 6. and 4. Group No. 7.—D. M. Goodwin beat D. Eobertson, 2 and 1. Group No. B.—J. J. Dalgleish beat E. W. Atkinson, 6 ■ and 5. Group No. 9. —J. C. Webb was the winner. , Group No. 10.—Second round: W. K. Cook beat W. Flanagan, 3" and 2; P. Hay beat G. P. Eoberts, 1 up at tho 20th. The final of this group will be played this afternoon.
