MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Police cases at the Magistrate's Court to-day were dealt with by Messrs. I. Salek and D. H. Edgar, J.P.'s.
Two firsyofEending inebriates, who did not appear, were each fined the amount of . their bail, aiid another was convicted and discharged. ,
"He says he. has been sleeping out for tlie past six or seven months and has begged food; from houses in the Wairarapa and Hauawatu districts," said Sub-Inspector Harvey of Francis James Smith (22), who admitted being an idle and disorderly person with insufficient lawful means of support. The accused was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence, if called upon, within twelve months. He was also ordered to remain in the Salvation-Army Home during that period.
A remand to sth January was granted in the case of Leslie Robert Ashfield, a seaman, aged 20, who Was charged with the theft of clothing and toilet articles, valued at £35, the property of Norman Henry Fraser.
"Give me a chance and I'll get away into the country," pleaded Peter Butler, alias Joseph Clancy (54), who admitted having been found by night without lawful excuse, in enclosed premises in Adelaide road. "I think a term, in-gaol would do you. more good," replied Mr. Salek. "Fourteen days."
