AWAPUNI TRACK WORK
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N-yThis Day. • Dull weather, with a cold easterly wind, prevailed for the early work at Awapuni this morning. The outside of the track proper was open, but the majority worked on the plough, which was in splendid order. . Orchid, sprinted four furlongs oO Catcall (Mackie) and l'noe (S. Wilson) were sent over seven furlongs, following an indifferent start. They ran the last six in lmin 21scc. Catcall holding the advantage Pantler and Benmure were companions over a round and a half on the plough, the last six furlongs taking 1 mm 22sec." Pantler had a slight advantage over the Cup candidate. Hymestrason■ (Green) and' Some Lad (Mackie) left five furlongs behind in lmin OJscc. Hymestrason led throughout., s Comedy Prince (Jenkins) aud Little River (A. M'Dopald) went a round over the hurdles- in a good display, but Comedy Prince had th measure of his opponent. " Polar (Mackie) and Santonio (0. : Browne) were sent over a'mile on tho , grass in lmin 52see. Polar appeared to hold his companion. ' Poraki (Wilson), Conviction (Green), and March On (Jenkins) finished in that order at the end of six furlongs in, lmin 20sec. . .. Powhiro (A. M'Donald) went alone over five flights, giving a finished display of jumping for a maiden. He appeared to be tender in front. Novar (Browne) aud Kilmisn (drreen) were practically together all the way over a mile on the plough, tho latter having half a length advantage at the post. . •
Crown Area, Cavity, and" Sugar Bag were associated' over half a mile in 54 sec. Crown Area had a neck advantage over*6avity. Sugar Bag waj well back. Sottana was sent a mile and a quarter on the-grass, being assisted by Shining Star over the first portion and Royal Land over the second. Sottana put up a fair performance, and will start in the Cup in preference to the hurdles. Ho is to be ridden by E. Dunn. Buoyant, looking very well, did a round on the plough under a hard pull. After breakfast Royal Damon and Royal Time worked separately on tlio plough.
M-srry Day was picked up by Epistle on the second round on the plough. The Cup horse >vent unkindly in the first round, but galloped well alongside hoistable companion. •
