PLUNKET SHIELD

WELLINGTON TEAM SELECTED.

The following team has been selected to represent Wellington against Otago in the Plunket Shield match, to be commenced at the Basin Reserve on Christmas Day:— W. S. Brice (Petone), captain; J. S. Hiddleston ■ (Wellington), H. M. M'Girr (Hutt), K. C. James (Old Boys), T. C. Lowry (Hawkes Bay), R. de E. Worker (Hawkes Bay), C. S. Dempster (Wanga■nui), P. T. Badcock (Kilbirnie), B. J. Kortlang (Thorndon), A.., M. Hollings (University), M. Henderson (V.M.C.A.), and H. M. Lambert (Old' Boys). Little fault will be found with Mr. Tucker's selection, the team being one of tlie strongest that has yet represented Wellington in Plunket Shield fixtures. Particularly is this the case in regard to batting, and the Otago bowlers will have a formidable task in front of them right 1 down to the last wicket. From a bowliiig point of view the team is also strong, aud Brice will be in the position of having at least six first-class bowlers to call upon. On figures, Henderson may be accounted fortunate to gain a place, but in tlie Town v. Country match he was bowling ♦really well, but with very little luck. On a fast wicket and with good slips to support him, he is just the type of bowler to get wickets. Mr. Tucker's preference for Henderson as against Bernau is not altogether surprising, in view of the latter's performance in the match which concluded yesterday. Although he secured a wicket or two, Bernau proved fairly expensive. He also failed with the bat.
