SUICIDE BY POISONING

AUCKLAND, 9th Dec.

The iuquest concerning the death of William Henry Ashton, aged 38, who was found dead in the Domain yesterday, was held to-day.

Dr. E. N. Drier said that he found- a small bottle, smelling strongly of poison, boside the body.

Dr. D. N. W. Murray, who made the post-mortem examination, said that he was of the opinion that death was due to shock following the taking of poison.

David Nelson M'Gregor, who boarded with the deceased, said that when he (witness) left for work at 8 o'clock the deceased appeared to be quite normal. Later witness received a telephone message stating that something had happened, and he found a note on his bed from the deceased saying that he was about to commit suicide. The deceased had served in the Great War and was in receipt of a pension. He had a shrapnel wound in one of his lungs, and this worried him - considerably.
