TOWN v. COUNTRY

STRONG TEAMS AVAILABLE,

For the Town v. Country match, to be rAjayed at Wellington on 17th, 18th, and >ioth December, the minor associations y'm. the Wellington provincial area will v'iave their strongest team on record. Jmt. A. M. Ongley (Manawatu) has ■>|elected the following country team:— r,T. C. Lowry, B. do B. Worker, and Mitchell (Hawkes Bay), G. Clarke, C. ■^Kingston, and O. M. Naismith (Tara- ; iaki), C. S. Dempster, B. H. L. Bernau, ': md G. Orr (Wanganui), N. Gallichan "^Manawatu), and J. Newman (Nelson), ;," rith C. Laßh (Taranaki) and D. Camer- '.;. >n (Rangitikei) as emergencies. The Wellington sole selector (Mr. /i Cen. Tucker) has decided upon nine „';: ilayers for the town team, and will Select the others after next Saturday's v/lub games. Those already chosen, are: -.J-W. S. Brice (Petone), captain, J. S. >3iddleston (Wellington), H. M. M'Girr ifHutt), B. J. Kortlang (Thorndon), K. .'jfames (Old Boys), H. Lambert (Old ,poja), F. T. Badcock (Kilbirnio), A. tvl. Hollings (University), and XT. Henfierson (V.M.C.A.). ;J In notifying the Wellington Cricket .Association of his choice of players to 'Jepresent the country districts, Mr. OOngley stated that the team had to be 3>icked early in order to allow players ;|o get the necessary leave, and this had •'.prevented him seeing any inter-assoeia-Jlion matchesTvith the exception of that between Tarana-ki and Wanganui. ;''Jj' There appears to be plenty of useful ioatsmen offering,"-he said, "but good "(bowlers appear to be scarce in the country associations. Hope's illness robs She team of a good' deal of its bowling Artrength. The country is well off for Lowry, Kingston, and RitPie all being available for selection. :ngston and Lowry are good batsmen vw well as 'keepers. The only bowlers to Wellington are Clarke and Mitchell. Clarke is the Taranaki bowler jfrho did so well against Wanganui. He i*m a right-hand fast-medium, bowler, ■!&»king pace off the pitch, and swings 'Sinier suitable conditions. Mitchell is 'A right-hand slow leg-break bowler. I '^aave not had an opportunity of seeing L'liim in action, but he is highly rceom--jJiendcd by Worker, and, as 1 have said, were not many bowlers offering. >s>n the whole, I think the team should i.Se quite capable of giving a good ac--Sount of itself. Some familiar names Jmay be missing, because wherever possible I have given preference to the '•Jjpounger brigade." < ■| On Mr. Ongley's suggestion, T. C. jpormry was appointed captain of the ■Swmtry team. - <
