TROTTING NOTES

(By "Vedette.")

TROTTING FIXTURES.

December 8 and 11—Wellington T.C. December 16 and 18—New Brighton T.C. December 27—Ashburton T.C. December 27—Gore T.C. December 27 and 28—South Wairarapa T.C. December 27 and 28—Westport T.C. December 28, 30, and 31—Auckland T.C. December 30—Winton T.C.

Visiting horses are already in good force at Hutt Park and everything points to Wednesday's racing being really good. There has been a little work, but nothing that would give a line to prospects of horses engaged. These are coming from all parts of the North Island, while there will be the usual formidable Canterbury contingent. Princef Pointer arrived yesterday morning, so" that Wellingtonians will be certain to have an opportunity of seeing this speedy horse in action. Champions and near champions have a great pull on the public fancy, and it has been shown by results that the public always have been attracted more by a contest between one or two high-class horses than by a dozen races in which mere nonentities were engaged. If the weather holds fine the course on Wednesday should be fast and good. Most satisfactory nominations have been received for the South Wairarapa Trotting Club's Meeting. Mr. A. J. Hastings has been appointed starter to the New Brighton Trotting Club. ' The trotter, Charles Dixie, is being kept solidly at work and whilst he does not always do his work consistently he has improved a good deal. He may be raced at Auckland at the end of the month. He is engaged at Hutt Park on Wednesday. Jack Potts is training on capitally at present. Despite his injury prior to the Cup, which prevented him from having a solid preparation, the American stallion raced really well. He should not be long before he wins a good race, and he may be a competitor at Auckland at the end of the month. Kotuku Jack, the brother to Prince Pointer, who raced at Auckland at. the end of last month, lightened up considerably during the trip. Despite the fact that he won a race at the meeting his showing was not at all satisfactory to his trainer. On the first day he met with trouble at the start of his race, which easily accounts for his defeat, but he did not pace evenly when he got on the journey, and ho is evidently not quite his best. Kotuku Jack is, however, gradually furnishing into a powerful horse, and h.? may, in the future, show form, equal to that of Prince Pointer. Logan King did not race at all well it the Nelson Trotting Club's Meeting.last month, and he is becoming iractious and troublesome at the post. He looks aa though he has done a good deal of work, and paces solidly once on the journey, but he will require to mend his manners before success will come his way in races._ Trespass, tlie sister to Talent, in H. Frost's stable, is built on quite: differentlines to her relative, but she is a useful sort, who is now 'improving. She is engaged in the opening event on Wednesday at Hutt Park. I
