CALEDONIAN CARNIVAL.
Saturday afternoon's brilliant sunshine attracted many hundreds of visitors to the Caledonian Carnival, which is being held at the Kilbirnie Reserve for the purpose of raising funds for the building of an. up-to-date Caledonian Hall in Wellington. Sideshows and ocean waves and merry-go-rounds. did a roaring business, and could scarcely cope with the number of children, and grown-ups, too, who sought to patronise them. Other attractions were yacht racing and a children's fancy dress ball. Thousands thronged the grounds in the evening, when a fireworks display was given by Chinese citizens of Wellington. The display included many amazing- and striking, set pieces, which were cheered again'and Again. -Altogether over ten thousand fireworks were used. Good programmes have been arranged for each evening of thfi carnival. To-night there will be the usual jazz in the huge marquee, the music being supplied by a full orchestra. New sideshows are being erected to-day, so that visitors will have an even greater variety than before, and a brass band will be in attendance. Boxing exhibitions by some of the bestknown, exponents of the art in New Zealand, including the well-known Jamito, will be a feature of to-morrow and-Wed-nesday evenings.
