The fourth series of local senior matches, postponed a week previously, was commenced under ideal conditions on Saturday afternoon. In the UniversityV.M.C.A. match the students obtained a commanding lead. V.M.C.A. were disposed of rather cheaply by Hollings and Vietmeyer, and University replied with a score of '201 for one wicket. Hollings compiled a century, making his runs in quick time from a good range of shots. In the other match at the Basin Reserve, Old Boysi-Ihstitute, the special feature was a great fifth-wicket stand by D. Burt and H. Foley which produced 254 runs, and completely turned the tide for Institute after it had gone against them at the outset. Burt and Foley each scored & century, showing their best form in senior cricket, and, except for one chance (by Foley , after he had passed the century mark),' playing faultlessly against various . changes of bowling. Though not a record, their partnership was' one of the .best for the fifth wicket in local cricket: Thorndon put up quite a good performance against Kilbirnie at Kilbirnie in scoring 257 runs. Four of their batsmen fell to' lbw decisions. Badcock was again the leader in Kilbirnie's attack, and gathered in six wickets. The bowlers held the upper hand in the Petone-Hutt match at Petone, Hutt being disposed of for 130 runs, and Petone losing -five wickets for 63 runs. Beard (Hutt) and Brice and Eeyling (Petone) were the principal trundlers. Wellington and Midland were matched at the Hutt, the latter scoring solidly iq taking- first strike. Turvey, J. Hutchings, iand Doneghue were the main contributors. Hiddleston and Airey gave Wellington a good lead in reply, scoring 52 runs without losing a wicket. -
