The Minister of Lauds (the Hon. A. 1). M'Leod) loft for tho South last night. He expects to return to Wellington'at the end of the week. The Minister of Public Works (tho Hon. K. S. Williams) left last nighton a visit to tho Rangitikoi district. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice and Defence (tho Hon. 1«. J. Rolleston) will leave for Napier_ tomorrow morning, returning to Wellington ou Friday evening. The Postmaster-General (Mio -Uol'W. Nosworthy), accompanied by the newly-appointed Secretary of tho Post Office (Mr. G. M'Namara) paid a visit of inspection this morning to the Post Office and its various branches. Tho Leader of the Opposition (Mr. H. E. Holland) arrived this morning from tho West Coast, on business connected with his electorate. Ho proposes to return to-morrow. Mr. IT. B. Tucker, who has boon in Wellington, for some time past, returned to Palmcrston. North to-day. The funeral of the late Private Percy Floyd, 8A.468, N.Z.E.F., took place at Karori on Saturday. The service was conducted by the Rev. H. O. W. Christie. Amongst those present w^re his Worship the Mayor (Mr. C. J. B. Norwood), Mr. E. P. Norman (Town Clrk), Mr. Robert Tait (Assistant-Town Clerk), Captain J. F. Roskstrow, representing G.0.C., Major Watson (R.S.A.), Mrs. Neilson (Women's National Reserve), and a representative from the Pensions Department. The Right Rev. Monsignor Burke, who died suddenly at the Convent of Bluff, Invercargill, on Sunday night, aged 70 years, was having a rest preparatory to conducting the evening service, and when one of the nuns ■wont to call him he suddenly expired. Deceased was born at Dungarvan, County Waterforcl, Ireland, and studied and was ordained at St. John's College, Waterford, where ho becamo a professor for two years. In company with Bishop Moran, he arrived in Dunetlin 44 years ago, and was stationed in this city, at Port Chalmers, and at .Queenstown for 30 years. Monsignor Burke, who was made a domestic prelate \>y the Pope this year, was distinguished for theological and historical learning. Ho returned about three months ago from a trip to tho Old Country, apparently greatly benefited in health, and his death last evening came as a great shock to his parishioners and all who knew him.
