DOCTOR OF LAW DEGREE
CONFERRED ON MR. COATES.

To the cooeeing of students in the galleries, Mr. Coates received the degree of Doctor of Law of Cambridge University. The Public Orator in his customary Latin speech referred to the Prime Minister's boyhood, when he drove cattle with the same patience and courage as he later guided the human flock. Sir Ernest and Lady Rutherford entertained Mr. Coates and party, also thirty New-Zealand students. (Sydney Sun Cable.) (Received 29th November, 10 a.m.) LONDON, 28th November. A phrase in the Public Orator . Latin speech referring to Mr. Coates's boyhood was translated as "cowboy," thereby leading the papers to use tho heading "From Cowboy to Prime Minister."
