"THE GIRL BEHIND THE COUNTER."
Tlie first _ performance in New Zealand of tho musical comedy, from Wyndham's Theatre, London, "The Girl Behind the Counter," which Mr. David Devitt is producing, will take place' on Thursday at the Grand Opera House in aid of St. Mary's Homes, Karori. The name-part is played by Alice Harris, who, as Winifred, Willoujrhby, the daughter of General and Lady Wilkmghby, masquerades os an assistant in the flower deportment of La JMaison Duval, and falls in love with her first customer, ■ Charlie Chetwynd, just back from West Africa. Norman Byrne is Chetwynd..- The comedy is in the capable hands of Lillian Grey, Mollie Plin_ mer, Kathryn Murie, Mabel Robertson, Robert Charlton, Jack Cannon, Joseph Hunt, Harold Abbot, James M'Bryde, and Leslie Anderson. In addition to Florence Heyworth and Phillip Low, the specialty dancers will include Joan Carter, Muriel Wilson, Gladys Smyth, Irene Wilson, Iris Low, Zeena Holden, and Doc Wheeler. Messrs. Kirkcaldie and Stains are supplying .'gowns, millinery, etc., for a display in the first act. Mr.' Len Barnes has charge of the music. The box plan is open at The Bristol.
