UNIVERSITY RIFLE CLUB.

i;t Trentham on Saturday the Univer-sity-Rifle Club fired in the annual competitioa for the Imperial universities challenge trophy. The club is the present holder of the trophy, having won it in 1925, by the narrow margin of two points, Sydney University being second. It was unfortunate that Saturday waß nominated bythe club as the day on which it would shoot, as the weather was of the worst liogtrible, 'and the local clubs which usualy .shoot at Trentham on Saturdays abandoned their competitions for the afternoon. The competition is a strenuous test of mirksmanship over distances of 200, 300, WOjp and 800 yards, arranged in series of deliberate and rapid practices. The targets used are standard Bisley targets, and ten shots are fired at each range. The rapid practices are at 200 and 500 yards, and the ' terp, shots must be fired within fifty second*. "fbe shooting on Saturday was not up to the» standard of the previous year, but th4p the conditions were almost ideal, whjjreas on Saturday they were the reverse. Nevertheless, some good scores were made, particularly by Bollard and Ainslie in the deliberate series at 300, 500, ami 600 yards. Both shot brilliantly, and Bollard, in scoring 140 points out of a poiiible 150 has achieved what very few riflemen under better conditions have achieved at Trentham. His score is worth recording:— 300>ards: 5555455555 ...... 49 500; yards: 5445455554 46 W&yards: 5554554345 „ 45 g T0ta1.... 140 Ainßli.s performance was also full of metit, especially his effort at 600 yards.
