ROSE-GROWING
On Wednesday evening the Hutt Valley Horticultural Society held the second of the series of lectures for the season. The subject of rose-growing was very ably dealt with by Sir Alexander Roberts, who is one of the keenest amateur rose-groweri in the Valley. The lecturer gave a very interesting account of his own observations and experiences, describing his methods of planting and pruning. Sir Alexander explained that he did not specialise in growing roses purely for exhibition purposes, but preferred to grow for quantity of bloom, and enjoyed cutting them for others. The large attendance was much interested, and asked a number of questions. Sir Alexander was warmly thanked for his lecture by, the president, Mr. L. T. Watkins, who presided.
