MISS KATHLEEN O'BRIEN.
Something quite unusual in the form of a Chinese dance-play is to be presented by Miss Kathleen O'Brien at the Grand Opera House on Tuesday, 9th November. The principal parts are being taken by several of Wellington's best-known amateurs, the cast including Miss Edna Purdy, Mr. Lionel Inch, Mr. Joe Elliott, Lai Hanlon, Mr. Clarence Poppleton, Miss Henri Smith, and Miss Nellie Doull. A brilliant ballet, "The Fire Spirits," a clever Russian scena in which the Trepak and Mazurka arc performed, was taught to Miss O'Brien by MM. Pianoswski and Zalewski of the Pavlova Co. Included in a varied programme will be a rollicking Irish song and dance scena, an amusfng Charleston, and a particularly clever acrobatic solo and ballet. The play itself, with its original plot, its outstanding characters, gorgeously frocked dancing, and tuneful sjnging should prove a great success. The tiny tots will give ■ a ten minutes' demonstration dressed in miniature ballet frocks. Soloists included in the programme are Misses Beryl Ward, Joan Raine, Eileen Colgate, Elsie Swanson, Marjorie Vanse, Una Smith, Eunice Scott, Muriel Morgan, Hazel Martin, Joyce Banks, Phyllis LinkInter, Masters M'Namara, Ldckwood, and Sellars. The box plan is at The Bristol.
