SPIDERS AT LARGE

DIVERSION AT GENEVA.

GENEVA, 15th September.

Spiders have determined to play a part in international affairs, all the hotels in Geneva being infested. They hang from the ceilings, drop on the beds, and spin webs on the delegates' hats. An Englishwoman's shrieks awoke everyone in one expensive hotel at 2 o 'clock in the morning • because she found a spider in her hair. The insects even found their way into the hall where the League was solemnly sitting.

Signor Scialoja mentioned the invasion to M. Motta, and M. Vandervelde pointed to a spider bite on his cheek. M. Motta turned from tho weighty foreign problems and called together the chief hotelkeepers, after which score* of maids declared war on the insects, effecting a temporary clearance. When night came, however, it was found that many had taken refuge in the beds.
