THE WAN-HSIEN AFFAIR
PEKIN'S REPLY TO BRITISH
PROTEST.

PEKIN, 12th September.
The Pekin Government has filed a vigorous protest with tho British Legation regarding tho Wan-Hsien affair, reserving the right to demand damages, in reply to tho British protest in connection with the deaths of -the naval men killed in the attempt to rescue two British vessels. It is now stated that tho negotiations oj the authorities and tho British Consul may prevent tho nccessty ; of a second British expedition to Wan-Hsien.
