WASHINGTON, 12th Sept,
The Navy Department has received a message confirming the report that tho United States destroyers Stewart and Pope wero fired upon in Chinese waters on sth September. The steamer Iling was bombarded on 4th September.
Officials believe that tho present naval vessels in China are. able to take care of themselves.
