UNAUTHORISED EXPENDITURE

COMPASSIONATE ALLOWANCES,

The following items of unauthorised expenditure appear in the Supplementary Estimates: —

Compensation and medical expenses granted to J. Hayes for injuries whil3t on duty (P. and T. Department), £319 8s Gd. Compensation and legal expenses granted to G. Stewart for injuries whilst on duty (P. and T. Department), £127 2s. Cost of passages and expenses of Right Hon. Sir Francis Bell and private secretary to attend League of Nations, Geneva,' £1042 Cs Bd. Payment to Marino Department for the charter of the Tutanokai for a relief trip to Niuo Island in 1924, owing to the wreck of tho Rama at Chatham Islands, £2000. Compassionate grant in full settlement of claims relative to the iiso of aluminium number plates ou motor vehicles, £200. Compassionate allowance to widow of tho late Dr. Hay, Inspector-General of Mental Hospitals, £1200. . ,
