BRITISH SAILORS' SOCIETY
The Wellington branch of the above society has for the past twenty years been doing good work in providing entertainment and other services for the benefit of the sailors coming into this port, which lias been greatly appreciated. This is shown by tlie gratitude expressed from time to time, and by the large numbers who gather at the rooms as tho various ships arrive iv port. The society has been hampered in its efforts by the want of sufficient accommodation to enable the officials and helpers to carry on their voluntary labours to the best advantage. The authorities have at last secured commodious rooms at the Antipodean Chambers, in Lower Cuba street, and will bo able to carry on their work with more satisfaction to themselves and with greater comfort for the visitors.
On Saturday night a very enjoyable evening was provided for the sailors, who expressed admiration and appreciation of the efforts of Messrs. Padman, Armstrong, Brown, and others, and the many lady helpers assisting them.
The official opening will take place in two or three weeks.
