FIRST IN NEW ZEALAND
APPRENTICES FINED.
Four youths, apprenticed by the provision of the Wellington Painters and Decorators' 50-mile Radius Apprenticeship Order, were prosecuted in tho Magistrate's Court to-day by the Labour Department for failing to attend the Wellington Technical College as directed by the Apprenticeship Committee in accordance with the order.
Mr. E. T. Bailey, of the Labour Department, said that the cases were the first which had been brought in New Zealand. The Arbitration Court had made an order in which were delegated powers to the Apprenticeship Committee to see that boys attended' the Technical School. The Magistrate (Mr. W. G. Riddell) said he saw no reason why the boys should not attend the Technical School to beconic more proficient.
A fine of 10s was imposed in each case,
