WEATHER IMPROVEMENT SOON
The change forecasted on Saturday for winds backing by north-west to south was fulfilled when westerlies gave place to southerlies yesterday. In consequence, there lias been a sharp drop in temperature, with hail squalls and heavy showers in many parts of the country. At Arthur's Pass, 3.30 in of rain fell, while in Wellington there were only ten points yesterday and four this morning, making a total of 1.87 in for the month, which" is below the usual. The barometer has risen everywhere, and is likely to rise considerably higher. South-easterly winds, moderate to strong, are forecasted, with cold and showery conditions. A very cold night is expected, with frosts inland and hard, frosts in the. south, but the weather is likely to improve generally soon.
