REDUCED
MARX STATES POSITION AS TO
LEAGUE

BERLIN, 22nd August.
In a speech at Breslau, Dr. Marx, Chancellor of Germany, declared that Germany's expectations from the Troaty of Locarno had not yist been fulfilled to the extent desired. Germans had been painfully disappointed. Since the evacuation of the Cologne Zone the number of troops in the Seconci and Third Zones had lately been increased by thousands of men.
The Chancellor said that he must be certain when, he goes to Geneva that Germany's entrance into the League of Nations will proceed without friction, to a successful conclusion. He explained that Germany was ready to co-oper-ate in the work of the Examination Committeo and the interests of the League as a whole. Ho said:— We shall strive to maintain the Council's freedom of action. We are not posing as the opponent of any candidate. We only aslc in the anal settlement that the interesta of all members of the League be taken into account.
