AN OFFER ACCEPTED
LADY ASTOR AND SOVIET
REGIME.
LONDON, 21st August.
Lady-Astor in December challenged any British Socialist doing lip service to tho Soviet regime to put his faith to tho proof by going to live in Russia, offering to pay the fares of any acceptor.
James Morton (aged 48 years), an ironmoulder, of Liverpool, accepted the offer, and will sail for Leningrad during the week-end with his wife and two children. Mr. Morton says: "Things way be a bit thin over there but they cannot be leaner than here. Tlough I am a skilled man I only draw £3 2s Gd weekly. I think myself lucky compared with other skilled workers in the engineering trade. I have been unemployed or on half-time since 1921. As secretary of the Liverpool 'Hands Off Russia Committee,' I. know something of tho conditions of the workers. The Slate is' in a stage of transition. • It cannot be a land of milk and honey."
