Labour and political circles take a gloomy view in regard to the prospects of a. coal settlement. It in uncertain whether then; will bo a general drift back to work. Evon if the miiicm in many districts conclude district agreements in response to the fairly genorous terms, such ;i process munt occupy weeks.. It is considered tho solj _<>p<; of an early general termination of the stoppage lies in the reassembling of Parliament on 30th August. Its business is to confirm tho emergency regulations, but thcro is no doubt that time will be given for a general discussion of the coal situation.
