JAPAN DEFEATS CUBA
MONTREAL, 20th August. T. Harada and T. Tawara clinched the Davis Cup honours for Japan on Friday by defeating the Cubans, E. Paris and R. Chacon, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2. Japan's victory was largely through Harada's brilliant placements, especially when advancing to the net. In exhibition matches, T. Toba defeated Arthur Ham (Toronto), 6-1, 6-4. (Received 23rd August, 8 a.m.) MONTREAL, 22nd August. T. Tawara (Japan) defeated R. Paris (Cuba), 6-2, 6 : 0, 6-2. T. Toba (Japan), substitute for Harada, defeated R. Banet (Cuba), 6-2, 6-2, 6-3, giving the Japanese a clean sweep.
Japan now meets France at Forest Hills on Thursday to decide which country shall have the honour of meeting the United States in the challenge round on 9th September.
