Architects Approve of Town Planning.
The Now Zealand Institute of Architects has expressed full approval of the proposals of the Government in regard to compulsory town planning and at a mooting yesterday adopted the following resolution:—"Tho executive of the Now Zealand Institute of Architects desires to thank tho Hon. Minister of Internal Affairs for the preparation of tho Town-Planning Bill, and sincerely hopes that it will be passed this session. As architects, we realise but that little progress can be made in our art until towns are laid out in the most convenient and economic mannor, and control —now lacking—is given over the position and designs of our buildings and over the amenities. This the Bill will do, and tho fact that there are differences of opinion in relation to tho betterment and compensation clauses need not delay its passage, for these would not be brought into requisition till after the schemes are prepared—ample time for any amendments to be made. It is a matter of urgency that all the other things dealt with in the Bill should at once be placed on the statutes, and perhaps most important of all, the Bill will enablo the abolition of slum areas and the replanning of them on proper town-planning lines."
