ORPHEUS' MUSICAL SOCIETY.
The third concert of the Orpheus' Musical Society is announced for Thursday,. 12th ; August, *in the Concert Chamber, when two works will be presented. "Thr> Banner of St. George," by Sir Edward Elgar, and "The Rose Maiden," by Sir F. H. Cowen. The former work is very colourful and dramatic, and judging by previous efforts of this society undej Mr. Len. Barnes, should receive a fine interpretation. "The Rose Maiden" is a lighter cantata, but very melodious. With a well-' trained chorus of • seventy voices, and first-class soloists, an enjoyable evening's music should be the result. Mrs. J. F. Woodward is the soprano soloist, while the contralto is Miss Marian Hamerton, Mr. Ray Hill, successful in last year's competitions, is the teuor, and Mr. Hilton Osborne, late of the Beggars' Opera Company, and the Savoy Theatre, London, will sing the baritone solos. At the pianos will be Miss Gwen Wing and Miss Vera Bresley. The plan opens at The Bristol on. Thursday. v
