CONDUCT AT CONCERTS

(To the Editor.)

Siv —The Port Nicholson Band's Sunday evening concerts through their merit invariably draw a "capacity" house. -Ue Programme offered is always good and well cholen, and the supporting artists of the best And yet a certain number of the Wellington hooligan element deem these conceits the precise time at which to dismay their deplorable lack o manners They attend for a "lark," and far from wanting to hear the band or solos seem intent upon drawing- as much attention unon themselves as possible. PLast night this clique really excelled themselves-and they weren't all males either-in the way fliey persistently toed to make the soloists ill at ease. When not laughing or passing humoroue «martaj, they were marching out in a body and then dancing on the stairs. Surely those muc- overs to whom the band's concerts are a real joy deserve some sort of protection from these people. I am quite aware that it is a difficult matter for one usher to curb their spirits, but thought that if you could find space in your columns for this protest it might at least help to bring some to their senses. Wellington is rapidly getting a hard name because a certain few have no code of chivalry. If the concerts are good enough for them to attend, surely they might try ami forget for a while that they are not on the street.—l am, etc., A.J.M.C. 26th July.
