MAGISTRATE'S COURT

Mr. E. Page, S.M., presided at to-day's sitting of the Magistrate's Court. A second offender for drunkenness, Edward Peter Alfred Newton, was fined the amount of his bail, £1. Bartholomew Mahoney, for a similar offence, was fined 10s, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. A first offender was convicted and discharged. Charged with being found in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor vehicle, Samuel John Carncross, alias Albert Prosser, was fined £10, and his driver's license was cancelled for two years. William Wong, alias William Kerwin, a labourer, aged 32, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment with hard labour, for the theft of £20 from Van Foon. Bernard Joseph Malloy, a salesman, aged 26, who appeared ;to answer a charge of stealing a suit of pyjamas valued at £2 from C. G. Dalcely, was remanded to 31st July. A fine of £5, in default two months imprisonment, was imposed on Kenneth Hugh Gough, a labourer, aged 19, who was charged with unlawfully converting to his own use a motor-cycle, valued at £40, the property of Leslie Wilfred Condliffe. William Alfred Cyril Rose, agent, 25, was fined &5, in default fourteen days' imprisonment, on a charge of assaulting Harry Ernest Herbert.

One first offender for drunkennes was fined 10s. the amount o£ his bail, at the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, and a second offender, Alfred Croft, was fined ss. Mr. O. Fownes, J.P., was on the bench.
