"PARLIAMENT"
AN ADDRESS BY MR. SPEAKER.
"Parliament" was the subject of an address given at the Rotary Club luncheon yesterday by the Speaker of the House of Representatives (Sir Charles Statham). Mr. C. E. Wheeler presided. Sir Charles Statham dealt in interesting fashion with the customs and privileges of Parliament, and supplemented his remarks by relating several amusing incidents which have occurred in Parliament, here and at Home, from time to time. New Zealand had a wonderful inheritance in its Parliament, he said. As he sat in the Chair and listened to the debates, he was often struck by the sincerity of the members. He could not always agree with the views that they expressed, but it was his duty to see that they all received fair play. Ho believed that when the history of New Zealand came to be written it would be found that their Parliament had proved to be a worthy daughter of the great Mother of Parliaments.
