TIMBER IMPORTS AND EXPORTS.
During May, New Zealand imported 391,245 super feet of cedar and 244,690 super feet of hemlock; the latter was all sawn dressed, tho former all rough sawn. The Import of Douglas fir was 1,189,057 super feet, of which 90,005 feet was sawn dressed. Tho Customs Talues were: Codar £4846, hemlock £2339, Douglas Or £9411. Tho Imports Included 1000 cheese crates valued at £204. Ironbark logs, 143,060 super feet, wero valued at £2034, and 034,339 super feet or rough-sawn ironbark, jarrah, etc., was valued at £10,700; in addition to which Australia sent 2001 poles (202,840 super feet) valued at £2764. Another substantial Import was £3995 worth of sleepers, 255,523 super feet. The total of imported timber was roundly worth £51,000. The above figures are picked out of a Forest Service return, which also shows exports of timber worth £29,000, Including 2,130,946 super feet of white piho valued at £25,301. Rimu, 216,834 super feet, also contributed £2002; beech, 147,672 super feet, £1701; kauri, £308.
