The : Birthday Honours List covers eighteen pages of tho "London Gazette." •' Tho recipients are located practically all over the whole globe, although notable exceptions are the Union of South Africa and Canada, where, the conferring of honours is now disfavoured. The only peerages are Lord Tredegar, who is raised to a Viscounty, and Mi1. Henry Berry, who is connected with the late1 Lord Ehondda's colliery undertakings,- who is appointed a Baron. Throe new Privy Councillors are Colonel.John Grettori, Sir Halford HacKenzie (Chairman of tho Imper.ial,Shipping Committee), and Lord Onslow.,;-,. Six Baronetcies have been awarded for political and public service. - The most prominent names among 2a Knight-Bachelors aro the musician, Mr. Hoiwy Coward, Mr.. F. E. Lacey, and- Mr., Stanley Machhi. The: Grand Cross of the Batli has been; conferred oil Sir Herbert Samuel, ex-chairman of the Coal Commission. ■Mrs.' W. F. Massey (New Zealand) is the only Damo' Grand Cross of the Empire,'while among tho five Dame Commanders figure the veteran actress, Mrs.' Kendall, and Mrs. Dr. Mary Scharlieb. ■ .Mr. Frank Fox, tho South Australian .■journalist, has been created a Knight Bachelor.
