COMMODORE BEAL.
Commodore Alister E. Beal, 8.N., is a son of the Bey. Canon S. Gilbert Beal, and was born at Glamis, Scotland, in 1875. He commenced his naval career on H.M.B. Britannia, and from 1901 until 1905 served on the Australian" station. He was appointed commander of H.M.S. Princess Eoyal it 1912, and remained on this ship until 1915, when he was appointed to the Admiralty iiaval staff. He was in command of H.M.S. Weymouth in 1918----19, and ngain in 1920-21. The next three years saw him as Deputy-Director of Operations of the Division of thd Admiralty: Naval Stuff, and in 1923 he was appointed Commodore Cpmmandiug New Zealand Division of th» Royal
Navy and First Naval Adviser to the New Zealand Government. Amongst the honours he holds, are C.M.G., Officer of the Legion of Honour, '. and Italian Silver Medal for military valour. In 1904, Captain Beal .married Miss Mabel Goul, elder daughter of the lato Mr. Charles Goul, of,,Oakdene Park Symmons Plains, Tasmania, and gvenddaughter of Sir James Goul, K.C.M.G., and sister of Lady Lewis, wife of the Hon. Sir Elliott "Lewis, K.C.M.G., of Tasmania.
