WINTER SHOW
GOVERNOR-GENERAL TO OPEN IT
NEXT SATURDAY.
Sir Charles Fergusson, the GovernorGeneral, has consented to open the Industrial Exhibition and Whiter Show in the Harbour Board Buildings on the waterfront on Saturday next, and if indications are to be trusted, the affair will be far in advance of anything of the kind attempted in the past. Busy gangs of men are at work already putting up the stalls for exhibitors, tea-rooms, offices, etc., all of which are in an advanced state of preparation. The shed next the Lyttelton Ferry Wharf is being prepared for the Industrial Association's exhibition, and a visit there will show that no time is being lost in erecting stalls /or the varied requirements of those who will have something to show worth seeing. While the trade entries show that last year's display will be eclipsed, there are several new features well worthy of note. For instance, the Kowhai Junior High School at Auckland will be showing some of the work of the pupils, a display seen here for the first time, and the Wellington Technical College is preparing an exhibit worthy of the institution. The farm roots will be very extensive, and the home science section promises to be a specially important one. The inner comfort of visitors will be well catered for by means of luncheons, afternoon tea, etc., while it is anticipated that the Whip, the Merry Mix, and the Dodgems, from the Exhibition at Dunedin, will afford loads of fun.
A special five-minute bus service will be run, while excursion fares will prevail on the railways during the fortnight the fixture will be open.
