THINGS INTANGIBLE
j MAKING LONDON'S FLESH CREEP. I have had an interview with an intangible woman; I have seen myself walking behind myself; I have lost myhead and found it again. Five Treasury notes were offered to me; when I endeavoured to take one, it vanished; living players appeared on a stage sixteen inches long; films talked and solid bodies materialised from nothing. These were but a few of my experiences met at a private view of the entertainment section of the Optical Convention, which met at the Imperial College of Science, states a representative of the "Daily Express." The convention, the entertainment side of which has been organised, by Sir Richard Page, tho distinguished scientist, was to show the remarkable illusions which can be produced by means of mirrors, lenses, and ingenious lighting effects. Sir Richard has devoted many years to the development of inventions, and has made an artificial throat for reproducing human speech. People peered into looking-glasses and shrieked to find that they had become four-eyed or single-eyed. When their eyes had been restored they glanced amazedly at their neighbours, whose heads had become skulls under the kindly action of a novel "death ray." Some visitors, more gallant than the rest, walked into the mirror maze, whare the spectator is justly asked to walk carefully; others shook hands with themselves or made fruitless attempts to."chuck the chin" of the intangible woman who has form and beauty but no substance. These are but a few of the terrors or delights.
