ELECTION OF OFFICERS OF INSTITUTE.
The annual conference of the New Zealand Eailwuy Officers' Institute was concluded yesterday, the president (Mr. V. X! J. Stanley) occupying the chair. During the afternoon, members of the conference waited on Messrs. Jones (chairman), Mason, and Mouat, members of the Railway Board, and placed a number of the most important decisions of the conference before them. Tho proceedings throughout were of a most pleasant and cordial nature, and at their conclusion the delegates rose and heartily cheered the membet-s of the Railway Board. Owing to pressure of Parliamentary duties the Prime Minister (the Eight Hon. J. G. Coates) was unable to hear representations from the conference on various matters it was decided to bring under his notice, and this duty was left to tho executive committee to perform when a suitable opportunity offered. The conference- decided that, owing to lack of support' by the members, the executive committee be instructed to take no' further action in regard to the proposed widows' pensions scheme. The executive committee was authorised to make full • inquiries as to the cost of a suitable building to replace the one at present in use as a head office, and asked to make recommendations as to methods of financing their building proposals. It was decided to vote £5 5s to the Workers' Educational Association. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr. V> R. J. Stanley (Wellington);., vice-presidents, Messrs. R. S. Skinner (Auckland), W. A^ Finlayson (.'Wellington), and J. J. M'Aloon (Mothven,'.Canterbury); general treasurer, Mr.. L. Barclay; auditors, Messrs. W. Bishop and E. H. Alington; executive committee (resident in Wellington), Messrs. A. S. Henderson (maintenance branch), E. W. Barnes (locomotive), V. C. Hardy (stores), J. E. Goodley, B. G. Croudis, A. C. Brown, and J. Maedonald (traffic).
