COUNTRY SCHOOL BURNED

MANGAWEKA, 30th June. Afire occurred at Mangaweka last night, when the State School was completely destroyed. The fire, which is thought to have starj^d througj a defective chimney, was discovered about 7 o'clock. The flames then had a good hold, and, although the brigade was quickly on the scene, it was obvious from the outset that the building could not be saved. Strenuous efforts by the brigade resulted in. the back portion of tho school being only gutted, but it will have to be demolished. The structure was about thirty years old, but was in an excellent state of preservation. Tho accommodation of its two hundred pupils now presents a serious problem, and by a coincidence the headmaster of the school was to have been relieved today by a new headmaste-
