DANCING

At the New Century Hall to-night the Black and White Orchestra is holding its weekly jazz assembly. Chocolate and cigarette fox trots, combined with, novelties and the latest music, assures patrons of an enjoyable evening.

A i very successful carnival dance was held by the Social Circle of the Early Settlers' Association in their hall, .in Abel Smith street. The hall was tastefully decorated with multi-coloured tsrearaers, and the varying colour and design of the fancy costumes made a very pleasing sight. Prizes were awarded for the best costumes and Mrs. Price had a somewhat difficult task in deciding the winner. The efforts of Mr. M. Domb, the secretary, and the committee, consisting of Mrs. Bailey, Mrs. Bain, Mrs. London, and' Miss Mason, were appreciated by those present, who thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

The annual dance of the. Public Service again promises to be a most successful function, and will be held at St. Francis's Hall.' The music and supper will be of the best, arid full arrangements have been made for a satisfactory service of conveyances for the guests after the dance.

The dance of the Old Boys' Association Football Club, which took place in the gymnasium of the New Technical College, Mount Cook, proved a very enjoyable one. The decorations' were very effective, with streamers and lycopodium suspended from the centre of the hall. Oyer seventy couples were present, among "whom were Mr. Howell, Director of the College, and Mrs. Howell. The committee responsible for the excellent arrangements, comprised all members of the team. The hon. secretary was Mr. J. Gribble, who also carried out the duties of M.C. Many requests were made for a repetition during the season.

Arrangements for the "joy night" to be held at the Town Hall on Saturday under the auspices of the Maytime Jazz Club are well in hand.
