"EVASIVE ANSWERS"
HOUGHTON VALLEY RESIDENTS
DISSATISFIED.
General dissatisfaction was expressed at the monthly meeting of the Houghton Valley Progressive Association at the evasive answers received from the Town Clerk in reply to requests made by the association as to improvements in the district. The association, it was remarked, had been formed seven months, and not a single improvement had been made to the district, in spite of promises made by the Mayor and his councillors. The lighting of Buckley road, admitted by the Mayor and representatives from the Eastern Suburbs' and Civic Leagues, to be a matter ofv urgency, was still to bo undertaken and the road, with the path through the Town Belt was in a state of darkness. Seats had been promised, but had not materialised. Road improvements as promised were still to all appearances in the air, the roads being worse now than ever they were.
Messrs. M'Laren and Moore, from the Civic League, were in attendance, and the _ large gathering decided unanimously to join the Civic League. The league is to be asked to approach the City Council in regard to district improvements.
