"CARDS ON THE TABLE.
Mr. F. AY. Seldon, a director of the Canterbury Roller Flour Mills, In contending that NewZealand millers cannpt pay 7s a bushel for wheat and manufacture flour at £18 a ton, remarked to a Press interviewer: "In the earlier part of the season this was done, and thß Minister contended that if some could they all could, and he stated then he would call the millers' 'bluff.' This he appears to have done, and the millers aro placing their cards on the table. It is very ■ unfortunate that at this period of the year millers have to close down and that the labour employed should be out of work and swell the ranks of the great unemployed. . . . When Australia finds out that New Zealand is cornered as far as stocks arc. concerned, their merchants may increase the prices of tho manufactured article. Then the Minister will havo to consider the matter of further protection."
