FIRST DEFEAT
SPBAKER'S RULING UPHELD,
(Received 30th June, 12.30 p.m.) OTTAWA, 29th June,
The new Government suffered its first reverse in the House of Commons on Tuesday, when the Speaker's ruling declaring the sub-amendment to the Customs report, moved by the Liberals, to be in order, was upheld by 115 votes ' The sub-amendment would strike out the censure on the King Government, contained in the Conservative amendment on the Customs report, and provide an inquiry "on a larger scale into the Customs administration. During the debate preseding the division the ex-Premier, Mr. King, submitted that, if the Conservative amendment in its present form were adopted, the Meighcn Government would be voting censure on itself.
