WELLINGTON UNION
The Wellington Kugby Union met last evening, ■when there were present Messrs. J. Prendeville (chair), G. W. Jackson, H. Murphy, B. M'llwraith, E. Williams, H. Morgan, T. A. Fletcher, A. J. Griffiths, J. N. Millard, and Major T. King. The Selwyn Club wrote notifying that it was desired that the club's intermediate grade team should be withdrawn from the competitions. The club regretted having to withdraw the team, but stated that transfers away from Wellington, injuries, and working hours had reduced the numbers of the team to nine, with which, of course, it was impossible to carry on. St. Patrick's College wrote stating that every effort had been made to keep the fourth grade team in the field, but regretted having to ask the union to withdraw it from the competitions. The letter stated it was possible at first to make up a team from the old boys and a few available boys from the ' college, but vacancies due to injuries I and withdrawals in the two higher grades had so reduced the membership of the fourths that the finding of fifteen players was now impossible, nor was the position likely to be relieved, as most of the college teams were playingNvithout reserves. In connection with the Eastbourne Club's default to Petone 4th A team last Saturday it was decided to ask Eastbourne for an explanation.
