WITHDRAWAL OF BRAZIL
BOMBSHELL AT GENEVA
FEAR OF FURTHER DEFECTIONS.
(United Press Association.—Copyright) ' (Australian-New Zealand Cable Assn.) (Received 10th June, 9 a.m.) LONDON, 9th June.
The Geneva correspondent of the "Daily Express" states that like a bombshell came the receipt of a dispatch from Rio de Janeiro announcing that Brazil intended to withdraw from the League of Nations and not to participate in the September meeting of the" League Assembly, although the Covenant provides that withdrawal shall not operate until-two years after notice This is the sequel of the March dispute in the League Council concerning the admission of Germany. There is a widespread fear that Spain will follow suit. This is based on the Marquis Quinones De Leon's absence from the present meeting of the Council; also on the fact that-the Spanish Disarmament representative has gone to Madrid for instructions. Others fear that Argentina will recede from her intention to rejoin the League and thus South America will not be represented. Thus a serious blow would be dealt to the League.
