EMPIRE PARLIAMENT
ADVOCATED BY SIR JOSEPH WARD.
SYDNEY, 9th June.
Speaking at the Millions Club, Sir Joseph Ward advocated the formation of an Empire Parliament, composed of representatives of all the Dominions and the Motherland, to handlev issues that concern the Empire as a whole. He added that the day had passed when the House of Commons, with its maze of British problems, could completely control the policy of the Dominions on broad issues, and the Parliament ho proposed could legislate on foreign matters, war clouds and the conduct of war should it develop, and similar matters. Sir Joseph Ward also urged suitable reciprocal treatment in trade between Australia and New Zealand, and suggested the formation of a committee of business men to consider ways and means to increase the trade between the two countries.
