CRICKET COACHES
PROFESSIONALS NOT WANTED Df SHIELD COMPETITIONS.
(By Telegraph.— Press Association.)
DUNEDIN, 6th May. At a meeting of the Otago Cricket Association to-night, a letter was received from the Auckland Association notifying its intention to engage a professional player-coach for at least three seasons, and appealing to Otago to engage ; coach for next season. The letter also asked Otago to support an amendment of the Plunket Shield rules to permit such coaches to take part in matches. ; "I feel it is against the ideals of the game to bring in birdsof passage—players to win games and then depart, said the. chairman (Mr. J. J. Clark). "I am not saying that Auckland -would do that, but it might easily come."
After other adverse opinions had been voiced, the meeting decided that it could not see its way to support the proposal.
