WHEAT AND FLOUR
A NEW PLYMOUTH PROTEST.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.)
NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day. The Taranaki Chamber of Commerce last night decided to protest to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture against the action of the flourmillers' combine in striking a New Plymouth firm off the list of distri : butors, presumably because the member, as president of the chamber, had repeatedly called attention to the injustice of the embargoes and duties in connection with the importation of wheat and flour. It was pointed out that in Australia, with wheat at 6s 5d per bushel, flour was sold : £12 12s 6d, f.o.b'.s.i., but in New Zealand 6s Bd, sacks in, was considered Ly the combine to be equal to £18, less discount, for flour, and-that this discrepancy needed investigating. It was also stated that the flourmillers- now wanted either the total prohibition of importation of flour or a duty of £4 per ton.
