(By Telegraph.) (Special to "The Evenini Post.")
AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland Education Board has many wants. The latest is three or four dozen residences for teacheri. A decision, to apply to the Minister of Education to have placed on the Estimates this year a sufficient sum to enable arrears in the erection of residences in the province to be overtaken has been reached by the board. Mr. R. Hoe moved that application be made for a special grant of £50,000 for the purpose. .The board, he said, had formerly begun to build up a reserve fund for this purpose. The fund had reached considerable proportions, but it was all spent during the war. In reply to a question by Mr. H. S. W. King, whether £50,000 was sufficient, Mr. Hoe said he had thought of asking for £100,000, but had decided not to spoil his chances by asking for too much. Mr. King said it would not b« advisable to specify any particular imount, and it was decided to ask for a sum sufficient ti meet the requirements. The chairman, Mr. A. Burns, Stated. that about 40 teachers' residence* were required immediately. If these could be built, the teachers would be more willing to go to country schools, which would then obtain a higher standard of instructors.
