BASIN RESERVE

GRANTED TO FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION.

The Wellington Football Association has been granted the use of the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoons during the present football season, subject to the payment of £100, the council to take 20 per cent, ot the gross gate takings and 50 per cent, of the stand and enclosure takings. One ground is to be granted to the Wellington Hockey Association on three occasions during the season, and the Wellington Rugby Union is to have the use of the ground on one Saturday in June. When the matter came before the City Council last evening Councillor R. M Keen asked what was meant by the "enclosure. Councillor W. J. Thompson, the chairman of the Reserves Committee, said that from time to time sports bodies had been allowed to mark off an enclosure alongside the grand-stand, and charge extra for admission. Councillor R. Semple: "That's a departure from the old system, is it not?" Councillor M. F. Luckie: "No. The Cricket Association suggested it themselves." ' _ In reply to Councillor J. Burns, Councillor Thompson stated that the arrangement was quite satisfactory to the Rugby Union. In future all organised boys' games in grades of 13 years and under are to be played on Friday afternoons, in order to relieve the congestion on the city reserves on Saturday afternoons.
